ABOUT THIS IMAGE:
In order to test a scent, male lions use a special glad at the top of their palate called the Jacobson’s Organ. This allows them to read more information from scents like urine. Here a male lion throws his head back into the wind, allowing the organ to be activated. It’s a dramatic posture that results in fantastic photographic opportunity.
